A regime is a mode or sustained pattern of price behavior. From a minuting perspective, there are 2 types of regimes: minuteable or not. A minuteable regime is predictable enough to profit from. Otherwise, randomness reigns and entry is dangerous.

Trends are the dominant regime of minuting. Ranging may sometimes be minuteable. Predictability is always the metric of minuteability. If the swing point (ceiling and/or floor) of a range is predictable, there is the precondition for minuting a range.

Chop defines a regime that is not minuteable. Consider random ranging an extended form of chop.

Minuting depends on reading the tape: interpretating price activity to perceive behavior patterns and thereby determine the current regime. The proper perspective to minute from comes from recognizing the present regime. Entry and exit then depend on picking the points in the pattern that outline a certainty window.
